Severus glanced at the clock. The Order meeting had convened less than an hour ago and it was clear that it was in complete chaos. All of their intelligence information conflicted, including his own. Someone had let the dog out and he had been snooping around as well. Severus suspected he was simply after the rat not actual, usable information.

Finally, the whole thing became too muddled even for Dumbledore and the meeting broke up with each of them receiving new assignments. The room erupted in a wave a chatter and he let it wash over him. He thought about Remus and where the werewolf was during the full moon tonight. Tea was poured, cake was cut and someone put out a sorry stale-looking cheese board.

Severus made his move on Dumbledore and attempted to find out where Remus spent the nights of the full. Sadly, he was thwarted by Albus’ love of cake, tea and sugar cubes. Perhaps, that was in and of itself the secret to the great wizard's longevity and power.

Unexpectedly, Sirius Black's whispered behind him. "I know where the proprietor keeps the booze."

Severus' head whipped around his wand threatened to snap in his clenched fist.
Sirius nodded towards the hallway. Severus balked. A drink would be most welcome, an obliging Sirius Black made him both wary and curious. He could knew that he could take care of himself and he followed the other man out the door.

Sirius had already unstoppered a crystal decanter by the time Severus entered the library. Two glasses were splashed with more than three fingers of Firewhisky.
Sirius raised one in a toast and downed half of it. Severus reached for the other glass.

"I heard what you said to Dumbledore." Sirius said as he watched the liqueur swirl slightly in his glass.

"Well, at least someone did." Severus snarked.

"It's not his fault really. Remus doesn't want anyone to know where he goes."

Severus rolled his eyes. "Except you…"

Sirius shook his head. "I think especially me…after…well you know."

Severus cocked his head and took a small sip of his drink.

"After that only he went to the shack, Albus warded it so we couldn't join him. He didn't know how we had been, but I imagine he had an idea. Anyway, after last year Remus has given Albus a list of the places he goes on which dates. If he doesn't check in or someone doesn't report seeing him, we can go find him."
Sirius tipped back the rest of the glass.

"Ahh." Severus tossed back his drink.

"More?" Sirius offered.

Severus hesitated.

"I am." Sirius poured another shorter drink.

Severus held out his. He watched Sirius as he attempted to gauge the other man's motives.

"I never apologized to you for the incident. Remus didn't know anything about it and it appears that you have put that aside with him. I am sorry and I'd liked to explain as best I can."

"I might just have to sit down."

Sirius threw back his head and barked a laugh. "Please do."

Severus settled into a large wing-backed chair, while Sirius balanced on the edge of the desk.

"I was a seventeen year old Gryffindor that had been raised by Sytherins. You probably can understand that better after all the time you've spent in the school as an adult. The shackles were all off, Gryffs aren't subtle, and it was so much freedom. I'm certain my housemates knew when to restrain themselves more at eleven than I did at seventeen." He took a sip of his drink. "I didn't consider the consequences for you, for Remus, or even for me. It was just the most perfect prank I'd ever conceived. Fortunately for all of us, despite being a total berk at seventeen, James was the bravest man I ever knew."

Severus held back a snort. At least Black had admitted the man was a berk, not that they all weren't just a little bit that way at that age. To his mind though, Lily was the brave one, the one who made the last stand for her son. "I appreciate your acknowledgement."

Sirius laughed again. "And like a true Slytherin you deflect…just in case." He looked down at his empty glass. "Another?"

Severus shook his head. "I refused to be caught singing old Hobgoblins songs with you."

Sirius grinned. "So you sing when you're drunk."

"Not hardly." Severus sniffed. "But one can never be too careful."
