Challenge: Day 28 May Madness, sunset…I'm sure it was a prompt one day
Author's Notes: 28 Day

Remus settled onto the ground so he could look down the dogleg of Black Lake and see the sunset. Sirius had always called it his lake because it was Black and there was a dogleg. It had been more than two and a half years since Sirius had gone through the veil; it was still difficult to believe. The sun dropped lower.

Remus had proven difficult to kill. Score Werewolves one, Voldermort and his followers zero. Remus thought about so many others who hadn't survived Voldemort. Tonks, a friend not wife, Charlie's wife actually he missed her shininess. Fred Weasley the life of the party, the party continued with his other half, but it wasn't the same. Mad-Eye Moody, Remus had been certain the man was indestructible due to his assortment of artificial parts and the balance of his body being pickled by liquor. The sky had begun to turn rose, orange and golden.

There were so many names that marched through his head in the quiet. The one that he was most startled by, the one that he just couldn't accept was Severus. Severus who had a backup plan, to a backup plan, to a backup plan. He had to have known he was still at risk from Voldemort himself. Brilliant, snarky, sexy as hell Severus was apparently of this world no longer. The rose coloured sky had darkened to crimson, the gold had disappeared and purple had begun to push the other colours down into the dark water.

It was September. Hogwarts had been partially rebuilt and classes had begun. For the first time in the better part of twenty years, Severus did not roam the corridors. Remus had checked the first day to see if Severus' portrait had appeared in the Head Master's office. Minerva had known immediately that was why he'd come. She offered him tea and biscuits anyway. He already had the job. The sky had faded to lilac, lavender and eggplant.

The nocturnal animals had begun to move about and Remus knew he needed to get back to the castle. There were papers to mark. His stomach rumbled.

"You should eat once in a while, Lupin." A voice drawled in the dark.

Remus' heart hammered in his chest, his wand was drawn.

"Still eloquent as ever I see."

"Severus…am I dreaming?" Remus whispered.

"No."

"But how…where..why…?" Remus stuttered.

"Is that what you really want to know?" Severus asked smugly.

"No! No, it's not you bastard! What I want to know is how fast I can get you out of your ridiculous button covered clothes!" Remus stepped closer to the voice.

"Excellent answer."

There could be talking later, Remus growled and pounced.

The sky succumbed to the inky colour of night.
