Dinner time, the Great Hall. Plates and platters of food, as far as the eye could see, and everyone eating and talking and laughing.
Everyone except Severus, who picked at his potatoes and tried not to look down the table at...
No.
There was no need to look down the table. What was he, a bloody adolescent with a crush?
This wasn't a crush. It was a death wish. It was the only possible explanation.
Werewolf.
It wasn't like Lupin was particularly handsome. His exaggerated good manners weren't endearing, they were quite simply annoying. And that stupid cardigan! A stupid cardigan, as if he weren't a slavering beast once a month. Severus wanted to tear that cardigan off him. Tear off the cardigan, muss the carefully groomed hair, make him look like the beast he was....
He realized he was blushing and stabbed a potato.
"Severus?"
He turned his head towards Minerva's voice.
"Is there something wrong with your dinner, Severus?" Minerva's voice was quiet, pitched so that only he could hear her. "You're not coming down with anything, are you?"
"I'm not very hungry," he said.
Not for dinner, at least.
