Severus sipped his sazerac. The barkeeper had been correct in recommending this particular cocktail. A historic drink here made with rye whiskey and some sort of bitters. It was the third anniversary of Voldemort's defeat and he sat in a pub at the bar in New Orleans, Louisiana. The most amazing thing was that nothing earth-shattering happened, well at least not today.
"Excuse me, is this seat taken?" A voice to his left asked.
Severus whipped his head around, his heart in his throat.
"Severus?" The voice was now weak and the man sunk onto the bar stool.
"Not so dead as was reported then." Severus drawled.
"You either." Remus raised his hand to signal the barkeeper. "What he's having please." He turned back to Severus. "Gods Severus, where have you been all this time?"
"I might ask you the same. The last time I saw you…" He purse his lips and tapped his finger to them. "Was just before you took Black's place with his cousin. You apparently knew more than he did about impregnating females." Severus back had stiffened and his mind was now clear.
Remus jumped off the barstool and captured the other man's face between his hands and kissed him, long and hard. They were interrupted by the barman.
"The places you're looking for a further down Bourbon Street." The man tilted his head toward the door.
"Thank you." Remus said quickly. "I apologize. I lost my head for a moment."
Which may have been directed at Severus or the barkeeper, Severus simply shook his head to remove the muddle mess his brain had become, again.
"Lupin, what is the meaning of all this? How did you find me?" Severus hissed.
"I'm on holiday. It's just a fluke." Remus gulped a bit of his drink.
"A likely story."
"Do you live here? Are you with anyone? Did you fully recover from your injuries? What have you been doing…" Remus' questions tumbled out.
"Lupin…" Severus started.
"If you're not currently married, engaged, bonded or seeing someone, I'm going to plant you on the nearest flat surface and have my way with you. And then I will tell you, no fewer than twelve million times that I love you, and then perhaps I will let you talk." Remus stood up.
"I'm not with anyone." Severus gave that much and then raised one eyebrow. "And I don't have a say in any of this? I too have questions. Quite a number of them in fact." He crossed his arms over his chest.
"I'm single. Always was. Teddy Lupin is Charlie Weasley's son, Andromeda is raising him. I own a small plot of land in France and raise goats and make cheese.
And I never had sexual congress with any woman including Nymphadora Tonks."
Severus took this moment to throw caution to the wind. "I will count you realize."
Remus placed a stack of bills on the bar. "I have no doubt." He reached for Severus' hand. "I have a room in a hotel on Royal Street."
Severus nodded and grasped the warm fingers. "I may not wait."
